: Kenny Gilmore is the owner of the Howard Deli on Georgia Avenue. This
interview gives an interesting perspective of growing up in a close
knit neighborhood, near Howard University and so many other resources. He
describes life as a very active youth, working in the deli (then
owned by Frank Guerra) from the time he was 4-5 years old. His
social consciousness was formed his neighbors and teachers, and
his racial and political consciousness was strongly influenced
by Howard University. He describes some of the major changes
that took place in the community, and his vision for the future
of Pleasant Plains.
